Call for entries 2010

Video Art Festival Miden invites all video artists and video creators to participate in this year’s events, which will take place, like the past five years, in public spaces at the Historic Centre of the city of Kalamata, Greece, in July 2010.

The festival call is open to every creator (individuals, groups or organizations) of any nationality and background. 
The proposed video can be of any genre (video art, experimental video, animation, short movie etc.). Duration under 10 min.
There is no entry fee.

Deadline: April 15, 2010 (post stamped)

In its 6th realization, along with the main program, Festival Miden wishes to present the following additional special showcases:
-    a special theme program entitled “ Sound & vision, music & video ”
-    a special theme program entitled “ Land/e/scape ”
-    a special theme program entitled “Money”
-   
Also, this year a special theme program entitled “Supernatural” will be curated by guest curator Maria Bourika, based in UK. The submissions for this particular unit will follow the general guidelines and regulations of the festival (see bellow) but, in addition, artists are requested to send a link to a preview copy online for review and/or download, along with the filled entry form, directly to the curator at mbourika@googlemail.com

VIDEO FORMAT
Accepted formats (only PAL copies):
-DVD
-miniDV
-uncompressed movie files .avi or .mov (data DVD or CD)
(Attention: Please avoid attaching stickers on the surface of the DVD/CD)

SENDING PROPOSALS (ENTRY FORM AND VIDEO):
•    Creators can send one or several proposals, filling in a separate entry form for each video.
•    Please indicate on your application whether you are applying for one of the special showcases mentioned above.
•    Send the entry forms: 
1.    filled in and printed, along with the proposed videos, to the following address:

2.    and in Word file format, along with a still image or a photograph for each video (tiff ή jpg, 800x600pixels, 72dpi) to the following e-mail address:  entries@festivalmiden.gr
•    Please mark on all copies (DVD, CD, VHS ή miniDV cassettes) the author’s name and the title, year of production and duration of the video. Please avoid attaching stickers on the surface of the DVD/CDs.
•    Remember to mark on all dispatches:
“FOR TEMPORARY CULTURAL PURPOSE-NO COMMERCIAL VALUE”
•    The festival takes no responsibility for loss or damage during transportation.
•    Please do not send masters. Copies and any other material you send will not be returned, they will remain in the festival’s archive.
•    Festival Miden does not send printed material (poster, program etc.) to participant artists. Electronic material will be posted on the festival’s website www.festivalmiden.gr
NOTE that, especially and only for the theme program “Supernatural” artists are also requested to send a preview copy online for review and/or download, along with the filled entry form, directly to the curator of the program, Maria Bourika, at mbourika@googlemail.com

PROGRAM:
•    Festival Miden 2010 will take place in public places of the Historical Centre of Kalamata, Greece, in July 2010. Additional screenings and events will be organized in Kalamata, Athens and other cities/countries after July.
•    Τhe complete screening program, exact dates and places will be posted on the festival website www.festivalmiden.gr and published to the press media
•    Selection and programming is decided only by the festival’s director and curators 
•    Τhe festival has the right to refuse participation without any further explanation 

COPYRIGHT RELEASE
By submitting the entry form, you accept the festival’s regulations and permit:
•    the free presentation of the proposed video in the context of Festival Miden 2010 and in future screenings, presentations and events organized or curated by Festival Miden
•    TV broadcast of the submitted video for promotional purposes
•    presentation of the proposed video on the festival’s website www.festivalmiden.gr
•    publication of video stills extracted from the video in festival catalogues, booklets, the festival’s website and press media
•    publication of the texts enclosed to the proposal (cv, synopsis, etc.)
•    archival, non-profit usage of the proposed video by the festival
Please read carefully entry rules and regulations and fill the entry form. Works submitted without the festival’s official entry form will be automatically regarded as positive to all rules, regulations and choice fields of the form, with responsibility of the sender/author. The same if the entry form is semi-completed. Works submitted without full video info and author’s cv will not proceed for selection.
