Step Closer: An Exhibition of Small Work

(Swainsboro, GA) - Gallery RFD seeks submissions for upcoming exhibition at Elements Bistro in Lyons titled Step Closer: An Exhibition of Small Work.

There is no doubt that large works of art create bold visual statements that envelope their viewers, and small works next to them are often overlooked, dwarfed by their standout neighbors.  We are taught that size matters, that bigger is better.  However, small works of art require the artist to use their limited space wisely, to be economical in content and yet simultaneously stimulate.  Precise and personal, these are works that require a one-on-one look.  To really see them, one must get close, overstepping the barrier that we are taught should exist between the viewer and a work of art, and give each piece one at a time attention.  The experience is wholly different from exhibits where large works command attention and viewing is shared by a group.  Suddenly one is able to experience the art alone, to retreat into a place of mental serenity. 

Gallery RFD serves as guest curators for EA Gallery at Elements Bistro in Lyons, GA.  Works that are small in size yet not in content are sought for this holiday exhibition. Entries must be smaller than 16" x20"  and priced under $200.00.  There will be no entry fee.  All works submitted will be exhibited. 

Submission deadline: Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, 4 p.m. (EST)

Exhibition runs Dec. 2, 2008 - Dec. 31, 2008
